Fives are Wild
The 5-0 White Sox victory over the Yankees and a fifth straight series win made it a memorable night at the ballpark last night. The Sox (44-41) have now won four of five, seven of 10 and 11 of their last 16 games.
Last Night’s Highlights
Miguel Gonzalez (7.0 IP), Zach Duke (1.1) and David Robertson (0.2) combined on the shutout. Avi Garcia, J.B. Shuck (doubled in two) and Tim Anderson (doubled in a pair) collected RBI in a four-run second and Brett Lawrie drove in an insurance run in the sixth.
Gonzalez (pictured above on the right fist-bumping Tyler Saladino) earned his second win in a Sox uniform with his impressive performance. He blanked the New Yorkers on five hits, allowing just one walk while striking out three.
Miggy’s gem and the fourth-inning RBI.
Quote of the Day
Chris Sale, shown above displaying his All-Star jersey, on the prospect of starting the All-Star Game:
“That would be awesome. It would be such a thrill.”
Run at Your Own Risk
He did it again. Adam Eaton garnered his major-league-leading 13th outfield assist of the season by throwing out Jacoby Ellsbury at second base in the third inning last night. Enjoy!
Sox Notes of Note
Catcher Omar Narvaez has been promoted from Charlotte to replace Alex Avila, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list. It’s Omar’s first time in the big leagues…Lawrie, with a single, RBI and run scored last night, extended his hitting streak to nine games. He is batting .382 with three doubles, one homer, five RBI and four runs scored during that span…Shuck is hitting .324 with two doubles, one triple, three home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored over his last 10 games.
