Last Night’s Highlights

Dioner Navarro doubled home Avi Garcia with the eventual winning run in the 10th inning as the White Sox slipped by the Twins, 6-5, in their second straight extra-inning affair in the Twin Cities.

After former Sox infielder Eduardo Escobar‘s three-run homer put the Twins ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth, the Good Guys came right back in the top of the ninth. Tim Anderson doubled for his third hit of the game and scored on Melky Cabrera‘s clutch two-out single, his third hit of the contest, that tied the score at 5-5. Cabrera drove in three runs on the night.

Former Twin Justin Morneau homered and doubled in a run, Navarro collected three hits including the game-winner and Garcia doubled twice, including the two-bagger in the 10th that put him in position to score the winning tally.

Miguel Gonzalez had another outstanding performance, allowing just one earned run and six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of workMichael Ynoa pitched out of trouble in a scoreless ninth for his first big-league win and David Robertson earned his 25th save with a 1-2-3 10th.

This Afternoon’s Game

White Sox vs. Twins at Target Field, Minneapolis (1:10 p.m. CT, CSN) in the rubber match of the three-game series. Starting Pitchers: LHP Carlos Rodon (2-7, 4.50), in his first start since coming off the disabled list for the Sox, RHP Ervin Santana (3-9, 3.78) for Minnesota.

Rodon will be making his first appearance since July 5.

Quote of the Day

Morneau returned to Minneapolis this weekend, the city he played in for 11 seasons and where he made four All-Star squads and won the American League MVP. His thoughts:

“It feels good. But it’s weirder for other people that are looking at me, seeing it. Being in Colorado the last two years, changing teams a couple times, I’m not really the one that’s looking at it. I think it’ll be different for everybody to look out there and see me playing on this field in another team’s uniform. I’m happy where I’m at, I’m thankful for the opportunity that I got, and I’m happy to be able to play baseball.”

Eaton ‘Em Up

Adam Eaton had the night off last night, but recorded two outfield assists on Friday night, extending his major-league leading total to 16. Eaton is on pace to record 25 outfield assists this season, which would tie for fifth-most in franchise history. Adam’s total of 24 since 2015 is the second-most among MLB outfielders behind Pittsburgh’s Starling Marte.

Rowand to Manage

Aaron Rowand, the starting centerfielder on the 2005 World Champion White Sox and currently the Sox’ minor-league baserunning and outfield coordinator, has been named the manager of the Glendale Desert Dogs of the Arizona Fall League. The league begins play on October 11.

Next Up

After tomorrow’s off day, it’ll be the White Sox vs. Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit for a three-game series.
