Quintessential Q, Big Inning Highlight Sox Win; Gonzalez to Face Ex-O’s Teammates Tonight
Friday, August 5, 2016
Jose Quintana (9-8, 2.93) was outstanding and the White Sox scored five times in the second inning en route to defeating the Tigers in the finale of the three-game series, 6-3, in Detroit.
Quintana tossed 7.1 innings, giving up three runs, eight hits and a walk along with three strikeouts for his ninth win.
The rally in the second was highlighted by Jose Abreu’s 12th homer, a two-run shot, and Avi Garcia‘s solo blast, his ninth of the season. Melky Cabrera (single) and Adam Eaton (sacrifice fly) each drove in runs in the inning. The Sox opened the scoring with a run in the first frame on a Justin Morneau‘s sac fly. Morneau also had a pair of doubles on the day.
Nate Jones relieved Q and got two outs in the eighth while David Robertson closed the door in the ninth with a scoreless inning for his 26th save.
