Minor League Monday

Every other Monday, we will spotlight some of the top recent performances in the White Sox minor league system, and keep you up-to-date on the players you’ll want to know over the next few years.

Spencer Adams – Pitcher (AA Birmingham)

Spencer Adams was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the second round of the 2014 MLB draft. Adams was promoted to the Barons from A+ Winston-Salem, where he racked up 74 strikeouts in 107.2 innings pitched. In his debut with the Barons on July 22, he gave up just four hits in six innings pitched. In yesterday’s game, Adams pitched 6 innings, throwing 105 pitches, 67 of which were strikes. Having just turned 20 in April, Adams is the youngest player in the entire AA Southern League.

Trey Michalczewski – Third Base (AA Birmingham)

Third baseman Trey Michalczewski was drafted by the White Sox in the 7th round of the 2013 MLB draft. Michalczewksi currently ranks as 10th for runs scored in the AA Southern League, and 13th for total bases. As with Spencer Adams, Michalczewski is typically one of the youngest players in his league, but continually stands out among older competition. His eight home runs this season show that he has good bat speed and strength that make him a valuable asset to the Barons.

Jordan Stephens – Pitcher (High A Winston-Salem)

Selected in the 5th round of the 2015 MLB by the White Sox, RHP Jordan Stephens currently leads the Carolina League in strikeouts, with 105 so far. Having recovered from Tommy John surgery in 2015, it appears now that Stephens is actually pitching harder than he was prior to surgery. He now averages more than one strikeout per inning, and Future Sox expect him to move up rapidly through the system.
