Minor League Monday
Every other Monday, we will spotlight some of the top recent performances in the White Sox minor league system, and keep you up-to-date on the players you’ll want to know over the next few years.
Alec Hansen – Pitcher (A Intimidators)
Alec Hansen was originally drafted out of high school in the 25th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. Hansen instead went on to play at the University of Oklahoma and was drafted this year in the 2nd round by the White Sox. The right-handed pitcher is quickly moving his way up through the farm system, having already graduated from two Rookie leagues to now playing for the Class-A Kannapolis Intimidators. In his time in the Pioneer League, Hansen ranked second with a 1.23 ERA and third in strikeouts, with a total of 59. Hansen’s pitching shows great potential and will be a valuable asset in the Sox farm system.
Courtney Hawkins – Outfielder (AA Barons)
Courtney Hawkins was drafted by the White Sox in the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft. Hawkins has been working his way through the farm system and has been with the Birmingham Barons for the last two seasons. In the Southern League, Hawkins ranks 9th for doubles, having hit 25 this season. Most recently, the 22-year-old was named to the Arizona Fall League which plays from mid-October to the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. He is one of the eight Sox players heading to Arizona to join prospects from the Dodgers, Cardinals, Nationals and Astros on the Glendale Desert Dogs.
Nick Delmonico- 3B/1B/OF(AAA Knights)
Nick Delmonico was drafted in 2011 by the Baltimore Orioles, but has been in the White Sox farm system since 2015. After an impressive season with the AA Barons and the AZ Fall League, Delmonico was promoted to the AAA Knights this past May. From his normal post at third base, the right-hander boasts 82 assists in 38 games played. As a left-handed batter, Delmonico has 62 hits and 7 home runs over 71 games this season.
