Last Night’s Highlghts

Carlos Rodon won his career-high fifth straight decision and recorded a season-high nine strikeouts and Tyler Saladino and Melky Cabrera each drove in a pair of runs as the White Sox routed the Royals, 7-2, for their third consecutive win in the opener of the three-game series. The Sox have won five of their last seven games and nine of their last 12 at U.S. Cellular Field.

Rodon, who allowed just one earned run on six hits over six innings, is now 5-0 with a 1.85 ERA and 40 strikeouts over his last seven starts (all quality).

Saladino pounded out two singles and a double in the Sox’ 13-hit attack while Adam EatonJose Abreu and Avi Garcia were right behind with two hits apiece. Tim Anderson, Abreu and Justin Morneau each contributed an RBI.

Chris Beck (0.1 IP), Dan Jennings (1.2) and Tommy Kahnle (1.0) pitched scoreless ball in relief of Rodon.

Saladino is hitting .341 with six doubles, two home runs, 14 RBI and four stolen bases over his last 21 games. He has recorded a hit in seven of his last eight games against the Royals, batting .333/.371/.515…Anderson has hit safely in 28 of his last 30 games, hitting .320 with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, 12 RBI and 20 runs scored…Eaton is batting .317 with five doubles, a triple, three home runs and 12 RBI and nine multi-hit efforts over his last 25 games….Garcia is hitting .396 with five doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored over his last 13 games at U.S. Cellular Field.
