For a Good Cause

AJ Pierzynski, Jayson Nix, Greg Walker and other former White Sox like Jim Thome, Bill Pierce, Bill Melton, Donn Pall and Michael Huff attended Children Memorial Hospital's Champions of Children dinner last night at the Palmer House Hilton.  Jerry Reinsdorf, whose Sox and Bulls have supported CMH through the years with millions of dollars of donations, and the White Sox received multiple honors, including a couple of special awards voted on by the kids (best play: Dewayne Wise's catch; MVP: Mark Buehrle; and Team of the Year).  Michael Reinsdorf accepted the Champions for Children's honor for his father.  AJ joked as he accepted the award for Buehrle's Perfect Game performance, pointing out that while everyone in the organization thanked Children's for the Award, AJ didn't because he didn't get to play in that game.  Chicago White Sox Charities recently has donated $1 million for construction of a new children's play area at the new CMH currently under construction.

Great Story

Congrats to White Sox minor leaguer Brent Morel, who won the Arizona Fall League batting title.  Morel and Jordan Danks played in the AFL championship game Saturday afternoon for the Peoria Javelinas. CJ Retherford's two-run homer in the 8th wins Arizona Fall League championship for the Javs, 5-4. Batting champ Brent Morel had two more hits.  The best part of the story: Morel has not played above Class A ball, hitting .281-16-79 at Winston-Salem this year.  He originally wasn't scheduled to play in the Fall League but when Dayan Viciedo suffered a sore arm, Morel was asked to join the roster (he literally was called back off the beach), going on to win a batting title!

Roster Adds

The White Sox added five players to the 40-man roster today: OF Stefan Gartrell and RHPs Brandon Hynick, Brian Omogrosso, Sergio Santos and Santo Luis.
