Last Night’s Highlights

Take your pick of heroes from the White Sox’ 8–2 victory over the Tigers as the Sox pounded out 14 hits and benefited from strong pitching in the opener of the four-game series and seven-game homestand.

Avi Garcia went 3-for-5 and put The Good Guys ahead, 3–1, in the third inning with a bases-loaded double; Matt Davidson singled and blasted his ninth homer of the season in the sixth to make it 4–2; Melky Cabrera singled home a run in the sixth and belted his fourth homer of the year in the eighth, a three-run shot; Mike Pelfrey gave up just one earned run and four hits along with seven strikeouts in earning his second win; and Chris Beck, Anthony Swarzak, Tommy Kahnle and Gregory Infante each pitched an inning of scoreless relief…If that weren’t enough, Jose Abreu went 3-for-5 to raise his batting average to an even .300. He has seven hits in his last eight at bats and a seven-game hitting streak, batting .484 during that span.

Enjoy Avi’s double plus the Matt and Melky homers:

Sox Notes of Note

The White Sox have homered in each of their last 11 games and 14 of the last 15 (26 total, eight multi-homer efforts)…The Sox collected 14 or more hits for the sixth time this season…Davidson has hit safely in six straight games, hitting .391 during that period with three homers and seven RBI.

The White Sox have recalled RHP Juan Minaya from Class AAA Charlotte and placed RHP Dylan Covey on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left oblique. The Sox also added RHP Tyler Danish from the Knights as the 26th player on the major-league roster for the doubleheader…2B Yoan Moncada was activated off of Charlotte’s DL and INF-OF Ryan Raburn was traded to the Nationals organization.
