Quote of the Day

Robin on the Sox’ opponents interest in Abreu:

“They’re just impressed with his professionalism. He’s not a flamboyant guy, but he comes to work. I think they come out, even for BP, and watch him.

“I think everybody’s interested because they’ve heard about him but they haven’t seen him, so everybody comes out to watch. That’s the first thing they notice, is how he goes about his work. He’s very meticulous and professional about his work, and I think people appreciate that.”

Sox Notes of Note

Chris Sale is in Kansas City today and is being evaluated by Robin, Coop and the Sox training staff. On the DL since April 22, Chris allowed just one infield hit with two walks and 11 strikeouts over four scoreless innings last Friday in his first rehab start with Class AAA Charlotte at Durham…Jose Abreu, on the DL with tendinitis in his left ankle, will wear a walking boot for the next several days and will be re-evaluated during the next homestand, which begins on Thursday.

Quote of the Day

GM Rick Hahn on Abreu being placed on the 15-day disabled list:

“It just got to the point it was clear we were going to have to take a step back for the long-term benefit of his recovery and take whatever time is necessary to get this thing right, as opposed to going back and forth every few days and letting him try to fight through it. I know that Jose certainly would have wanted to fight through this and stay in the lineup. That’s how his makeup is, and it speaks to his competitiveness as well as the type of player he’s going to be for us for a long time…Ultimately we had to take the decision out of his hands and do what we feel is the more cautious and more prudent route toward getting him healthy for the long term.”

Tomorrow’s Schedule

White Sox vs. Royals at Kauffman Stadium (7:10 p.m., CT, CSN). Starters RHP Andre Rienzo (3-0, 4.20) for the Sox, RHP Yordano Ventura (2-2, 2.34) for KC.

The Indians started CF Jose Cardenal, C Joe Azcue, SS Zoilo Versalles and RHP Luis Tiant. Here are the Cuban-born Sox posing together before today’s game.
