Quote(s) of the Day

Conor Gillaspie, who visited Walter Reed Military Hospital yesterday with a group of his teammates (via Colleen Kane in today’s Tribune):

“If I get super frustrated about (baseball), I will go back and remember what those guys have been through. There are some really good guys, and how happy they are, how much they appreciated 10 minutes of our time — it makes you forget about all this (losing).”

Robin on versatile rookie Leury Garcia, who started at shortstop last night and will be in centerfield today:

“Just want to give him enough opportunity and let him move around.”

Play(s) of the Day

Play of the Day

Paulie hit his 10th home run of the season and 432nd of his career in yesterday’s loss to the Yankees. The solo homer moved him past Cal Ripken Jr. into 44th place on the all-time list.

Quote of the Day

PK on passing Ripken Jr. (via Dan Hayes, csnchicago.com):

“As a kid growing up the beginning of my career was the end of his career. He’s the model of how you want to do it out there. So that’s kind of cool. He played a long time. Being a shortstop puts in perspective his offensive capabilities, and also playing short is a little different than me. But any time you get mentioned with guys like that it’s a cool thing.”

Tomorrow’s Schedule

White Sox vs Yankees at Yankee Stadium (6:05 p.m., CT, WGN) in the finale of the three-game series. Starters: Erik Johnson (who will be making his first major league appearance) for the Sox, LHP CC Sabathia (12-11, 4.91) for New York.

Did You Know…

…that Marcus Semien and Erik Johnson were teammates on the University of California-Berkeley team that reached the 2011 College World Series?
