This Afternoon’s Game
White Sox vs. Yankees at U.S. Cellular Field (1:10, CT, CSN) in the finale of the four-game series. Having won the first two games and lost yesterday’s extra-inning affair, the Sox need a win to take the series from the Bronx Bombers and also are looking to clinch their third straight home series win. Starters: RHP Andre Rienzo (4-0, 4.00) for the Sox, RHP Masahiro Tanaka (6-1, 2.39) for New York.
Rienzo earned the win in his last start at Kansas City, giving up just two runs on five hits over six innings pitched. He walked a pair and struck out a career-high eight. The White Sox are 6-0 in 2014 in Rienzo’s starts. The Sox streak of six team wins behind Andre is tied for the longest such streak in baseball this season.

John Danks was masterful in yesterday’s heartbreaking defeat. In eight innings of work, he didn’t allow a run, gave up only three hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out four…Dayan Viciedo, Adam Dunn and Alexei Ramirez drove in the Sox runs and Adam Eaton and Gordon Beckham collected three hits apiece. With his performance yesterday and three hits Friday night, Adam raised his BA to .292. Gordon is right behind him at .291.

Eaton is 8-14 (.571) in the Yankee series and 11-32 (.344) in the six games since returning from the disabled list. Beckham is hitting .417 over his six-game hitting streak and is batting .390 in his last 10 games and .350 in his last 19. He’s hitting .482 against left-handed pitchers.
White Sox starters own a 2.18 ERA with 29 strikeouts and a .177 average in the last six games.

RHP Frank Francisco has declined an outright assignment to Class AAA Charlotte and declared for free agency…C Hector Gimenez, who was playing in Charlotte, has been traded to the Blue Jays.

Robin Ventura talks about Tyler Flowers‘ improvement this season. The Sox catcher is batting .312 with an on-base percentage of .371.
