Quote of the Day

Robin’s comments on the recent Sox losses:

“It’s baseball. You have to create your own breaks and attitude-wise and everything else. If you want to go down the road of feeling sorry for yourself and thinking bad things are going to happen, it’s probably going to happen. I’m not going there. You have to pick yourself up, stay positive and get after it.”

Play of the Day

Outfielder Trayce Thompson, one of the Sox’s brightest prospects now playing at Class AA Birmingham, gave his Dad quite a Father’s Day gift yesterday by belting two home runs and driving in five runs in the Barons’ 9-8 win over Jackson. Trayce’s father, by the way, is former NBA star Mychal Thompson, who was listening to the game. The younger Thompson has been red-hot recently and as a result was named the Southern League Hitter of the Week (June 10-16), batting .435 with three homers, nine RBI and five runs scored.

Signed on the Dotted Line

The Sox have come to terms with 27 of their 40 draft choices from this month’s First-Player Draft, including the top 11 picks.

Never a Dull Moment

To anyone following the White Sox this season, it’s obvious how many tight games the Sox have played. But when you take a closer look, the number of nail-biters is staggering. Of the 64 games the Sox have played, 51 have been decided by three runs or less. That’s 79.7 percent. We also have played 11 extra inning games, the most in the American League and second only in the majors to the Colorado Rockies (12).

Quote of the Day

Robin, on being selected as a coach for the American League in the All-Star Game, to be played on Tuesday, July 16, at New York’s Citi Field.

“It’s special, having played there (in New York with both the host Mets and Yankees), it makes it nice. It’s always an honor anytime you get asked to do anything with the All-Star Game…Even as a player guys should play…it’s important for the game. Anytime you’re asked to do it, you should honor that.”

Play of the Day

Chris Sale’s magnificent complete-game performance in last night’s 2-1 loss to the Astros. He allowed no earned runs, just five hits and a lone walk while striking out 14, just one shy of his career high of 15 accomplished in May of last year against Tampa Bay. It was also Chris’s sixth career game with 10 or more strikeouts.

Tomorrow’s Schedule

White Sox vs. Astros at Minute Maid Park (1:10 p.m., CT, CSN). Starters: LHP Hector Santiago (2-4, 3.12) for the Sox, LHP Dallas Keuchel (3-3, 4.37) for Houston. Hector earned his second win of the season last Sunday against the A’s. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up just one earned run on four hits.

Did You Know…

…that this is the second time this month that the Sox have started all left-handers in a four-game series (Sale, Danks, Santiago and Jose Quintana)?
