“Pick up a ball, a glove, a book, a paint stick, a science project. Put down the guns.”

“This is America’s Team.”

Just moments before taking the field yesterday in his final game at Yankee Stadium, Paul Konerko was presented with a gift from New York captain Derek Jeter–a base signed by the Yankee team. There was also a video tribute to PK.
Little League U.S. Champion JRW Awaits Wednesday Parade
They may not have won the international championship at the Little League World Series, but the youngsters from Jackie Robinson West return to Chicago this week as conquering heroes after winning the U.S. title. They created more excitement than we ever could have imagined and captured the hearts of millions of fans everywhere. The City of Chicago will show its appreciation with a victory parade and fireworks scheduled for Wednesday.
Great job, JRW, congratulations from all of us at the White Sox!
Plays of the Day
Despite his no-decision yesterday in the Sox’ 10-inning, walk-off loss, Chris Sale tossed six innings without allowing an earned run and lowered his ERA to 2.03, tops in the American League. He gave up just four hits while striking out seven…Conor Gillaspie hit a two-run homer, his sixth of the season, and Alexei Ramirez (No. 12) and Avi Garcia (No. 4) hit solo shots. Ramirez’s blast led off the game and Garcia’s tied the contest at 4-4 in the top of the ninth inning that sent the game into extras.
Here are the Gillaspie, Ramirez, and Garcia homers:
In two games with Charlotte on his rehab assignment, Adam Eaton has gone 3-10 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
The Sox’ No. 1 2014 draft pick Carlos Rodon (pictured below) made his second start for Class AAA Charlotte last night and was quite impressive. The 21-year-old lefty from North Carolina State tossed four innings, allowing just a run, a hit and a pair of walks along with eight strikeouts. He threw 73 pitches, 47 for strikes and fanned five of the last six batters he faced. In his two starts for Charlotte–over seven innings pitched–Rodon has given up two runs, two hits and has struck out 11.
Knights’ outfielder Michael Taylor weighed in on Carlos:
“(Rodon’s) been as advertised, and I think he’s got great stuff. To me, he looks a lot like (San Francisco Giants starter) Madison Bumgarner. I faced him in his first start in Double-A back in 2009, and they look similar – except (Rodon’s) probably got a better slider. That would be one heck of a major league pitcher if that’s who he ends up being.”
Shortstop Tim Anderson, the White Sox’ top draft choice in 2013, is 7-13 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored in his first three games with Class AA Birmingham.
Quote of the Day
Konerko on being honored by the Yankees:
“The first game I ever went to as a kid was at Yankee Stadium when I was six years old. The fact that I’m getting a gift for something I did on the field in all the time between that and now is mind-boggling.”
Today is an off day, tomorrow it’ll be the White Sox vs. Indians at U.S. Cellular Field (7:10 p.m., CT, CSN+) in the opener of a three-game series and seven-game homestand that continues with four vs. the Tigers starting on Friday night. Starters: LHP Jose Quintana (6-10, 3.25) for the Sox, T.J. House (2-3, 3.80) for the Tribe.
