Sox Duo Holding Steady

Abreu and Alexei Ramirez remain in second place at their respective positions in the updated American League All-Star voting. Jose trails only the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera at first base and Alexei is behind perennial All-Star starter Derek Jeter of the Yankees at shortstop.

The voting closes at 11:59 p.m., ET, on Thursday. Both AL and National League rosters will be revealed at 7:00 p.m., ET, Sunday evening on ESPN during a special selection show.

Still time to vote.

Sox Notes of Note

Abreu’s solid showing in the All-Star voting should come as no surprise even though the rookie has just come onto the scene. He leads the majors in slugging percentage (.625), home run ratio (10,88) and RBI ratio (4.25) and ranks among the leaders in home runs (T1st, 25), RBI (T3rd, 64), extra-base hits (T3rd, 43) and OPS (7th, .953)…Adam Eaton has reached base safely in 22 of his last 23 games and is batting .375 with a .462 on-base percentage over his last 15 games to raise his season average from .251 to .279…Sox starting pitchers have made six quality starts in the last seven games, posting a 2.80 ERA…Fifty-two of the White Sox’ 83 games this year have been decided by three runs or less, including 10 of their last 12.

Quote of the Day

Paul Konerko…

On facing Buehrle, his friend and long-time Sox teammate:

“It’s weird facing him. It’s weird just seeing him in a different uniform. It never looks right to me, but it’s part of the game. There are a lot of guys you wish wouldn’t move teams, but it happens. You go out there and try and do your job. It’s not necessarily something you look forward to or enjoy, but it’s a job and you have to go do it.”

On his decision to come back this season in a part-time role:

“From a team standpoint, it’s been great. Judging from where we were last year, we’re actually playing good baseball and competing. Personally, it’s probably been everything I thought it would be. Different, but no regrets on doing it.”

Tomorrow’s Schedule

White Sox vs. Angels at U.S. Cellular Field (7:10 p.m, CT, CSN). Starters: RHP Scott Carroll (2-4, 4.76) for the Sox, Jered Weaver (8-6, 3.33) for LA.

Did You Know…

…that Sox pitching prospect Scott Snodgress came within two outs last night of the first Class AA Birmingham Barons’ no-hitter since 1995? The Chattanooga Lookouts’ Matt Wallach, the son of former major-leaguer Tim, broke up the no-no in the ninth with a line drive single to right. Snodgress got credit for his league-leading 10th win of the season in the Barons’ 7-0 win.

…that this is the fourth anniversary of one of the great moments in Sox history–Mark Buehrle’s perfect game against Tampa Bay? And a special tip of the cap to Dewayne Wise for “The Catch.”
