This Afternoon’s Game
White Sox vs. Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field (1:10 p.m., CT, WGN) in the finale of the two-game series and six-game homestand. Starters: RHP Hector Noesi (0-1, 11.74) making his first start for the Sox, RHP Max Scherzer (2-1, 2.45) for Detroit.
Sox Starting Lineup: Eaton CF, Beckham 2B, Abreu 1B, Dunn DH, Viciedo RF, Ramirez SS, De Aza LF, Flowers C, Semien 3B.
Plays of the Day
The Sox scored all of their runs in the third inning last night as we fell to the Tigers in a close one, 4-3…with one out, Marcus Semien singled and scored on Adam Eaton‘s double. Gordon Beckham plated Eaton and with two outs Adam’s Dunn‘s double scored Beckham…Jose Quintana went six innings, allowing three runs while striking out 10 without walking a batter. His K total was one shy of his career high of 11…Jake Petricka pitched a scoreless seventh and while Ron Belisario gave up an unearned run that proved to be the game-winner, he was impressive in two innings of work.
Here are the Eaton, Beckham and Dunn RBI.
Sox Notes of Note
Dunn has hit safely in five straight games and six of his last eight. He has reached base safely in 19 of his last 21 games and is hitting .321 with four doubles, three homers, eight RBI, seven runs and 13 walks in his last 14 games…Alexei Ramirez‘s 39 hits tie Paul Konerko (39, 2002) for the most in the month of April in team history and he has hit safely in 26 of 28 games…Alejandro De Aza, with his triple last night, has now hit safely in six of his last seven games…the Sox are hitting .295 with 63 runs scored over the last 10 games…fashion note: the Sox are wearing the ’83 throwback unis today.
Beckham: “Whether the future is now or later, I think we’re in a great position to do good things”
Walking through the Sox clubhouse Tuesday, I stopped in my tracks as the words “Let it go” floated through the air.
Is that Disney? Frozen?
“Gotta do something about that,” a clubhouse guy said, jumping up immediately. “Audio’s set on the Top 40…”
A really good friend of mine, three-year-old Stella (see photo below) knows all the words to Frozen by heart.
Happy to note that it did not appear that any White Sox were singing along, although I couldn’t find Alexei.
Quotes of the Day
The Tigers’ Torii Hunter, a perennial White Sox nemesis, on the 2014 Sox:
“These guys look good. They look powerful and scary at the plate.”
Paulie on the current Sox success:
“For me, deciding to come back for one more year, part of the story was this happening.”
Off day. On Friday, White Sox vs. Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland (6:05 p.m., CT, CSN) in the first of a three-game series. Starters: LHP John Danks (2-1, 3.48) for the Sox, RHP Danny Salazar (0-3, 6.04) for the Tribe.
