Andrew Vaughn’s 2-Run Homer Boosts White Sox to Win Over Yankees

Dylan Cease made his 24th start of the season for the White Sox, coming on to the mound strong with 2 strikeouts in the top of the first inning.

In the second inning, Cease made a barehanded throw to get the third out at first. The White Sox offense struck first with a 2-run home run from Andrew Vaughn to give the White Sox a 2–0 lead.

Cease continued his impressive outing, allowing only 1 hit through 5.1 innings and notching 6 strikeouts before handing the ball over to Brent Honeywell.

Vaughn displayed an impressive defensive front with a sliding out at first base to get Yankees right fielder, Jake Bauers, in the top of the sixth inning.

The Yankees responded in the top of the seventh inning. Billy McKinney sent Aaron Judge home on a sac-fly to center field, closing the White Sox lead to one run.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the White Sox bats were booming. Singles from Gavin Sheets and Elvis Andrus got the team started. Zach Remillard loaded the bases when he reached on an error by pitcher Tommy Kahnle. Andrew Benintendi allowed pinch-runner, Trayce Thompson, to score on a sacrifice fly ball. Luis Robert Jr. then closed out the inning with a monstrous RBI double to put the Good Guys up 5–1.

The White Sox bullpen proved strong tonight with Lane Ramsey notching his first career strikeout. Bryan Shaw punched 4 strikeouts in the last two innings to close the game.

The Chicago White Sox defeated the New York Yankees 5–1 at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, IL. The White Sox continues their series against the Yankees on Tuesday and Wednesday night at home.
