Yesterday’s Highlights

Where do we start?

The White Sox were victorious for the fifth straight day with a convincing 10–2 win over the Angels. The Sox also handed the Halos their first Cactus League loss after winning seven straight. The Good Guys are now 6–2–1.

The Sox offense pounded out 16 hits. Here are the highlights: 1B Danny Hayes (pictured above) crushed a two-run home run and delivered an RBI single; SS Eddy Alvarez hit an inside-the-park homer; Jacob May, went 3-for-3 and was a home run shy of the cycle; C Kevan Smith had a pair of singles with two RBI; and CF Peter Bourjos, tripled in a run, his second three-base hit in as many days. Bourjos actually scored on his eighth-inning triple due to an Angels’ error. If it had been ruled a homer, we would have had the rare distinction of back-to-back inside-the-park round-trippers because it came immediately before Alvarez’s race around the bases.

RHP Lucas Giolito, the starter who also earned the win, set the tone for what would be another outstanding day for White Sox pitching. Giolito tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out three.

The other Sox hurlers who pitched scoreless ball were RHP Jake Petricka (1.0 IP), RHP David Robertson (1.0), RHP Nate Jones (1.0) and RHP Zack Burdi (1.0).

Enjoy the Hayes homer and the back-to-back Bourjos/Alvarez triple/inside-the-parker.

Quote of the Day

Sox hitting coach Todd Steverson was asked by Scott Merkin of whitesox.com who has stood out so far in camp. His answer?

“TA, that man can hit.”

TA, of course, is SS Tim Anderson.

Sox Note of Note

The Sox had two Garcias (Leury and Willy) and two Cabreras (Melky and Everth) in yesterday’s lineup. It would have been a full house, so to speak, if Avi Garcia had played.

Giolito was one of the stars of yesterday’s game, not Geo (Geovany Soto) or Gio (Giovanni Soto). Here are the two Sotos smiling during a workout: C Geovany on the left, LHP Giovanni on the right. We know, it’s a little confusing.
