Cease Notches Milestone in White Sox Win over Boston

Dylan Cease took the mound for his 32nd start of the season needed four strikeouts his third consecutive season of 200-plus — he notched four and then some.

Cease tossed 7.0 IP and struck out 11 Red Sox. He joined Chris Sale (2013–16) and Ed Walsh (1910–12) as the only White Sox to record three-plus consecutive seasons of 200 or more strikeouts.

The game would remain scoreless until the ninth inning. Luis Robert Jr. on a 0–1 count sliced the ball around the Pesky Pole for his 38th home run of the season and put the Sox up by 1.

Aaron Bummer pitched into some trouble, giving up two straight walks to Ceddanne Rafaela and Rafael Devers open the bottom of the eighth. However, he got out of it quickly with a Justin Turner strikeout, a Alex Verdugo line out and a Masataka Yoshida ground out.

Bryan Shaw would close out the game and secure the Sox win.

The Chicago White Sox defeated the Boston Red Sox, 1–0, at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
