Hayes’ Game-Winning Grand Slam Caps Six-Homer Day for Sox
Today’s News
Yesterday’s Highlights
With the White Sox trailing 7–6, down to their last out and the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, 1B Danny Hayes dramatically launched a grand slam to give the Sox a come-from-behind 10–7 victory over the Indians in Goodyear.
The Good Guys, who pounded out 13 hits, are now 14–14–1 in Cactus League competition.
Hayes’ slam, his second HR of the spring, was the sixth of the day for the Sox. DH Cody Asche (№4) hit a solo shot; CF Jacob May did likewise for his first of the spring; 1B Jose Abreu connected with his second long one with nobody on; 2B Everth Cabrera slugged a two-run blast, №2; and LF Nicky Delmonico went deep for the fourth time with a solo homer…Asche, who also doubled, has four doubles, a team-high 10 walks and and a .316 batting average in addition to the four homers in CL play.
Those are yesterday’s sluggers pictured above: Hayes (bat on his shoulders), Asche (lefty hitter eyeing the pitcher), May (bat and no cap), Abreu (rounding the bases), Cabrera (head shot in Sox pinstripes) and Nicky Delmonico (with name on the back of his uniform).
Pitching-wise, RHP Dylan Covey started for the Sox and tossed 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and a walk with three Ks…LHP Gregory Infante, who was a member of the Venezuelan team in the World Baseball Classic, earned the win by virtue of his 2.2 scoreless innings.
