South Side Servings: Sox Announce New Ballpark Food

--

By Julianne Bartosz

Baseball returns to Chicago in just two weeks, and it will be accompanied by a variety of new tasty treats at Guaranteed Rate Field. For South Siders, ballpark fare is a key element of the gameday experience. Just like every other season, White Sox concessionaire partners Delaware North Sportservice and Levy Restaurants have expanded their roster with spicy, boozy and crispy items you won’t want to miss.

Here’s the line-up of must-try food for your next ballpark visit. Good luck picking which one to start with!

  1. Bacon: Yes, bacon is its own category. Levy Restaurants added an easy-to-eat ballpark item — popcorn. The fresh bacon popcorn is covered with sea salt, cracked pepper, grated parmesan cheese and bacon crumbles.

2. Sweet & Savory: From Buffalo chicken fries to the chili cheese fries, Delaware North made sure to offer a crispy option for everyone. A must-try at the new stand in Section 110 is the dessert sweet potato fries topped with powdered sugar, chopped pecans, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and Nutella.

3. Spicy: The Nashville hot chicken sandwich has just the right amount of kick with an authentic Nashville hot sauce. We’ve all had a hot chicken sandwich, but this one is definitely worth shaking up your ballpark routine for!

4. Local Flavor: Antique Taco is taking over the taco stands in Sections 109 and 137. The menu features chicken al pastor and “the air stream” — slow-smoked brisket, tres queso, grilled onions, beware sauce, cilantro and lime. BRB drooling…

5. Change-Up: Levy’s elote nuggets are a new take on a South Side staple. This basket of corn fritters is covered with a creamy cilantro lime aioli, queso cotija and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper.

6. Boozy: Hot apple cider and hot chocolate just got better. While everyone always hopes to welcome baseball back with warm weather, fans 21 and over won’t be mad about that unpredictable Chicago spring weather with these spiked drinks!

7. Chicago-Style: If you’re quick to debate on Chicago-style hot dog toppings, then you’ll have a field day with the Chicago fries from Levy. Now, you can debate whether the classic toppings are better for fries or a hot dog.

8. Italian: Look no further than the Caprese Sandwich. This classic adds to the healthy options at the ballpark with soft Buffalo mozzarella cheese, crisp tomato slices and fresh basil leaves with a sweet balsamic glaze.

9. Healthy: The super veggie sandwich is a vegan’s dream come true with avocado spread and hummus on wheat bread. It’s loaded with spinach, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers and pumpkin seeds.

You’ll want to be the first to try this fare, so buy your tickets to the April 4 home opener now then check out the full list of what’s new this season below. And if you’re here for the beer, the Goose Island Craft Kave menu features more than 90 craft offerings — including 36 new options from 17 new breweries.
