Sox Roll, Fourth Straight Win and Sweep in Sight

--

Today’s News

Yesterday’s Highlights

The White Sox put it all together yesterday in winning their third straight game, clinching their second consecutive series and notching their fifth triumph in their last six contests.

Todd Frazier (11) and Matt Davidson (15) crushed back-to-back homers in the second inning, Jose Abreu (11) added a solo homer in the sixth. Starter Mike Pelfrey and the bullpen dominated and Yolmer Sanchez executed a suicide squeeze as the Sox downed the Jays, 5–2, in the middle game of the three-game series at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Davidson’s blast was his fifth in his last six games, giving him 36 RBI on the season. He also legged out a double. Abreu’s shot gave him his 41st run batted in, Frazier his 33rd.

Pelfrey was outstanding in his finest performance in a Sox uniform, earning his third win while besting Blue Jay ace Marcus Stroman. He allowed just one run, four hits and no walks while striking out five in six innings of work. Tommy Kahnle (1.2 IP) and David Robertson (1.0) pitched perfect baseball to finish it off, each striking out a pair. DRob chalked up his 11th save.

According to @CSNHayes, Kahnle and Robertson have combined to strike out 85 batters and walk only 14 in 53 innings this season.

Enjoy the back-to-back jacks, Abreu’s long one, Sanchez’s bunt and a sampling of Pelfrey’s superb outing.

Quotes of the Day

Watch Derek Holland doing mock interviews yesterday in the dugout with the Sox heroes of the day. You’ll have to use your imagination to understand what’s being said, but it’s fun to see.

To give you a little insight, @CST_soxvan reported the following: When Holland put [not live] mic on Jose Abreu after homer, Abreu said ‘You can put it on the board!’ in English. Dugout’s response: ‘Yes!’

Prospect Report

Class A Advanced Winston-Salem RHP Dane Dunning tossed his first minor-league, complete-game shutout, 2–0, yesterday in the opener of a twin bill at Buies Creek. Dunning, who won his third game for the Dash, allowed just three hits and walked one while striking out seven in the seven-inning contest.
